LAKE COOTHARABA

Boreen Point on Lake Cootharaba.
Lake Cootharaba is one of Australia's finest sailing venues. It measures 10km by 5km, is totally landlocked and surrounded on 3 sides by National Parks. It is 2-3 metres deep and is part of the beautiful Noosa River System. Steady NE to SE 15knot winds usually blow over the low, narrow sand dunes which divide the lake from the Pacific Ocean.
Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club is a very informal, friendly family club with over 200 members and many years experience in running state, national and world titles for a large variety of classes. The Club house is on a pleasant tree-lined beach in the heart of Boreen Point. The building houses a large main hall, a covered poop deck viewing area, bar and meals, boat housing, hot showers and toilets.
A separate secure boat housing and trailer storage is located a couple of hundred metres from the club, visitors are rquested to leave their trailers in this facility to avoid cluttering up the beach area. Boreen Point's base population is about 200 and is well set up to cater for visitors. It boasts boat hire, camping grounds and plenty of accommmodation alternatives from camping to bed 'n' breakfasts and self contained units. The Apollonian Hotel, a restored 100+ year old Gympie mining hotel provides normal hotel services plus backpacker style accommodation at reasonable rates. Two general stores provide most of your daily needs with Tewantin and Noosa on 15 minutes away for any extras. Four kilometres north of Boreen Point, on the water in Cooloolah National Park is Elanda Point Camping, Cabins, Canoes and Boats with has a large camping ground.
For families and friends of sailors what to do when they are sailing is not a problem. Noosa, all the Sunshine Coast, and the superb views and waterfalls, arts and crafts of the Blackall Range are all within an hours drive. Brisbane to the south and Fraser Island to the north are only 2 hours away, and the Gold Coast 3 hours drive.
